Waste Collection: Waste Mangement provides waste collection. Billing is handled by the city and begins when water is hooked-up. For more information, contact Waste Mangement at 641-782-7777. Four times a year Waste Management picks up appliances and other bulk pickup during a free clean-up week.
Recycling Centers: Creston and Union County are participants in Prairie Solid Waste Agency. There are green recycling drop-off bins that accept glass, newspaper, plastics and tin. The bins are located at two of the grocery stores in Creston (Hy-Vee and Fareway). Recyclecardboard and white office paper at the Recycle Center on Highway 34 West. The Compost Site is located on Osage Street. Please call the Creston City Offices at 641-782-2000 ext 3 for the hours of operation.Water: Creston Water Works provides the city’s water service. The office is located at 820 South Park Street, 641-782-5817. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A minimum deposit of $125 is required. Bills include water, sewer and trash.
United States Post Office: The Post Office is located at 300 S. Elm Street. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-12 p.m. The lobby is open Monday through Friday, 2 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. The phone number is 641-782-2184.
Driver’s License: You must obtain a new driver’s license within 30 days of moving to the state. Driver’s licenses must be renewed within 30 days before or after the birthday in the year of expiration. Drivers licenses are renewable every five year, except if you are 70 or older or 18 and younger, call for details, Chauffeur’s licenses every four years. You will need your old license, social security card and proof of residency. License examiners are located in the County Treasurers Office, 300 North Pine, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The phone number is 782-2319
Motor Vehicle Registration: Automobile owners have 30 days to buy Iowa plates after becoming a resident of the state. Licenses may be obtained at the Union County Treasurer’s Office at the Court House, 300 N. Pine. The phone number is 782-1710. You will need your title/current registration. There is no personal property tax on automobiles in Iowa, but your tags may cost more than in some states.
Library: The Gibson Memorial Library is located at 200 W. Howard. The phone number is 782-2277. Hours: Thursday and Friday 10:00 A.M.-6:00 P.M., Monday through Wednesday 10:00 A.M.-8:00 P.M., Saturday 10:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.
Dog License: All dogs within Union County must be registered. Proof of rabies vaccine is required. Contact the County Auditor's Office, County Courthouse, 641-782-1701, for more information.
Congregate Mealsite: The mealsite is located at 116 West Adams. It provides lunch meals for seniors Monday through Friday. Activities such as cards, games and music are also offered during the week. For more information call 641-782-2447 or Area XIV Agency on Aging at 641-782-4040 located at 215 East Montgomery Street.
Voter Registration: To be eligible to vote, you must register 10 days before primary and general elections and 11 days before all other elections. Registration can be done at the County Auditor’s office, Courthouse, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Call 641-782-1701. You may also register at the Driver’s License Station located in the County Courthouse, 300 North Pine.
